At Cyber Collective, we want to empower you with the skills you already possess to make smart decisions online. This course is designed to remind you that just as you take precautions in the physical world, you can apply those same principles to protect yourself in the online space.
Throughout this course, you’ll discover how to recognize red flags, such as suspicious messages or phishing emails, and learn the steps you can take to safeguard your personal information, just as you would protect your wallet. By the end of this course, you'll not only understand why online safety and privacy matter but also develop the sharpness needed to navigate the internet confidently.
Being internet street-smart is about using the instincts and skills we already have—quick reactions that help us stay out of trouble. Just like looking both ways before crossing the street or not talking to strangers, you can apply those same instincts when you're online. Here at Cyber Collective, we want to show you that the smart moves you make every day are just as important when you're on your smartphone or using social media.
This course is here to remind you that you already have what it takes to be safe online. We'll help you see how the things you do to stay safe in the real world—like looking around or asking for help—are just like the actions you need to take online. We'll teach you how to spot things that don't seem right, like a suspicious message or a fishy email, and how to keep your private information safe, just like you'd protect your wallet.
By the end of this course, you'll be just as sharp online as you are on the street. You'll understand why online safety and privacy are important and how to spot common online scams, as well as how to recognize emerging threats. Here's what we'll cover in this course:
To start, you'll take a quiz to gauge where your Internet StreetSmart levels are. Then, we'll provide an overview of the data ecosystem and how everything is connected. We'll cover basic terminology and concepts, such as the difference between privacy and online safety. We'll also discuss common scams to watch out for and practical strategies to keep yourself and others safe.
At the end of the course, you'll take the same quiz again to measure your progress, along with a survey for feedback. Please remember, we are a small but mighty nonprofit organization, and this course is the first of its kind, co-created by Cyber Collective advocates and our internal team. With your feedback, we hope to improve this course and create more in the future, covering critical topics most important to our communities.
Okay, let's get started!
